Not Your Mama's Wedding! Break with Tradition and Introduce Patterns to Your Wedding Day

Today's wedding style opens all kinds of opportunities to break from tradition. In today's blog post, we're exploring options that diverge from the miles of ivory silk and lovely Alençon lace (although, admittedly, that is a pattern) to see how the brides that have gone before us have incorporated patterns into their wedding days. And, naturally, at Ellie Wren, we do love how every bride is different. We realize that one bride's polka dots are another bride's pinstripe, so we've also included everything ombre, paisley and filigree, ranging from a subtle hint, to a loud statement piece.
Polka Dot Weddings
While we may think of it as the "starter" pattern, incorporating polka dots into your wedding day can be fun and flashy. We love the subtle play on polka dots with Ali Christine Bridal's pearl and crystal earrings, as well as the way Francesca Miranda's wedding dress design manages a totally classy look with an element of fun (note the lace edging at the top of the back). Ellie Wren's own take on polka dots involved adding these cute pheasant feathers to an otherwise traditional red rose bridal shoe design.
To make this list, each item really had to earn its stripes. Sigh. Bad joke, but we try! We are digging the sheer pinstripe back on that tea length House of Mooshki dress, the nautical feel of Kate Spades' bridesmaids' dresses (wedding at the Cape, anyone?) and the simplicity of the pinstripe wrap on the wedding bouquet we found on Style Me Pretty.
